The story begins in 1996 outside Moonlight Cake Shop. Everybody is waiting to buy cakes but only egg tarts are available since the shop owner CHUNG SIU HOR has gone to the court. HOR is fighting for the custody of her six children with her ex-husband KAM TAI CHO. During the hearing, HOR blames CHO for not knowing the children well and for committing adultery with YAN HUNG. After reviewing the case, the judge grants the custody of WING KA, WING YUEN and WING CHUNG to CHO. On the other hand, HOR is granted the custody of WING HO, WING HING and her adopted daughter SUEN HO YUET. Ten years later, HOR’s younger sister SIU SA returns from Portugal. Her father CHUNG FAN TAT prepares dinner for her on the 16th of August of the Lunar calendar. SA realizes that HOR can only meet up with KA, YUEN and CHUNG on the next day of the mid-autumn festival.
