This was the first televised awards show for video and computer games, aired on Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) on Saturday, 5 November 1994. It was the culmination of a year-long effort by the former Los Angeles-based Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. Hosted by Leslie Nielsen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, this show included appearances by Hilary Swank, Matthew Perry, Will Arnett, Lark Voorhies, and Herbie Hancock among others.
